When you are struggling mentally, comments from loved ones constantly telling you how to live your life can really hurt. They can make you feel insufficient and incapable. When you are struggling, it's important not to feel ashamed of doing things that bring your soul comfort.

For example, I find immense pleasure in watching old cartoons or movies that bring me nostalgia. Others might comment that this is "childish," but who makes the rules? Most adults are unhappier than children anyway. Studio Ghibli and Mister Bean help me get through each hour and remind me that life can be better somehow.

I also enjoy making small meals during times of distress. It's therapeutic to cut vegetables and listen to the sizzles and noises that food makes. Preparing a small meal makes me feel accomplished and capable in a small way. Comparison is very common when we are deeply struggling. It's easy to compare our backstage to someone else's front stage and wonder why we are not enough. But I'm here to unblind your sight—people are masters at hiding their struggles. Think about it: how much have you gone through without telling anyone? Whatever others seem to do effortlessly, remember that you CAN also do it, just like a warrior fighting your own battles.

During my darkest moments, I felt so lifeless and incapable. One thing I would force myself to do was make my bed since I spent so much time there. I bought a few scented candles and linen spray and would put fresh sheets on my bed around 8 p.m. as part of my wind-down routine. This added to my small list of accomplishments. Having an inviting bed can really change your mood, trust me! Maybe even buy a cute little teddy for your bed.

Sometimes, watching TLC or Nigella Lawson with your socks on can really help! Give yourself rest. Take time away from your screen and take care of your eyes, they are the windows to your soul. Ice the lids of your eyes or cut two pieces of cucumber and rest them on your lids!
