MOODINESS

The Real reasons for your Anger, Frustration and Irritability

Life can be so difficult if we are at the mercy of our own emotions. Some emotions are pleasurable, but some feel distressing, uncomfortable, and even painful.  I have always been curious to understand why people have anger issues. Why is this person frustrated? Why is he cursing people all the time? What could be the root cause? Whatever it is, there's no shame in your battle and your pain will be healed, be open...God is FOR YOU!

Like everything in life, whatever emotional battle you fight, the first step is identifying that you ARE in a battle. I have noticed that many a times when a person has anger or irritability issues, the person is NOT being honest with themself. Let me tell you, the first step to getting better is humbling yourself and accepting the fact that you do have a problem and that you can sort it out with a little help from Jesus. It is also important to not condemn yourself on your journey, we are all human and are learning. Be kind to yourself as you recover.

Anger and irritability are human emotions, and are healthy when expressed in a timely fashion and for the right reasons. Jesus himself has expressed anger on earth...so its okay to feel angry! The problem is how much anger you carry and for how long? How many things make you irritable in a day? If its more than 3 then we can be sure you're in warfare.

There is ALWAYS a root cause to an emotional battle you are fighting, whether it be depression, anxiety or irritability. One thing is clear-when it comes to all emotional issues, it pertains to the way a person relates to love. A person who is constantly irritable and angry has a deeper reason to why they feel like that. The two reasons for irritability could be- depression or anxiety. The root cause for depression or anxiety is the root cause for your anger. So, basically anger is the icing on top in a two layered cake.

The root causes of anxiety and depression are so important to help us navigate our emotional healing. Here are some of the root causes.

To begin your healing journey, start by asking God to reveal the root cause of your irritability. I am in no way a doctor, ( if you do think you have a medical issue please do go to a licensed professional), but from my experience you probably struggle with self hatred. You might not have been nurtured from a young age and you craved love from your parents and failed romantic relationships...but you were never satiated. You were never replenished, so it left you bitter, resentful and alone with yourself. This made "YOU" - your worst enemy... and instead of confronting this self-hatred, you live in denial with yourself.

hint: remember- Satan's strategy is to make us as angry and unhappy as he possibly can. He wants to make us forget the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. Let us remind ourselves that its Satan's strategy to pit ourselves against the world and be stiff to love.

Anger is a battle not very familiar to me personally, but I am a witness to anger as many of my close friends and family struggle with this.  Dealing with a person who struggles from anger issues can be incredibly frustrating and requires a lot of patience since the person who is irritable is highly volatile and projecting stressful pain from within.

I have researched alot on the topic and Mark DeJesus, a pastor on Youtube who helps people heal- resonated a lot with me. A lot of my content here is borrowed from him. Be sure to check him out on Youtube for more insight.

The more depleted you are of Gods love, the more you wither away like a flower with no water..

Some other causes of anger issues could be-lack of sleep,

                lack of healthy nutrition

                dehydration

                hormonal issues

                lack of exercise

Anger is an issue which is much more common among men than women. This is because men are usually neglected and not nurtured from the time they are young boys. There is a "macho man" mentality where men are to pretend they are tough and strong- and that nothing bothers them. In reality...whether you are a MAN or WOMAN, it doesn't matter! You are a child of God, and God wants to lavish you with his love.

  • If you want to overcome your irritability issues, you have to ask God to start replenishing your heart and start softening it and allowing the hardness to melt away. Sit and cry out from your bed " ABBA FATHER! I don't know why but I absolutely hate myself! This emotion is so painful and has made me feel like the most worthless and ashamed! Show me how to love myself the way YOU love me! Show me how to love the world the way you love the world!"

  • You will have to learn how to nurture yourself like a mother hugging a weeping child. Call upon Mother Mary to teach you her grace.

  • You will have to learn how to be patient and compassionate with yourself. Love is the only medicine that heals. Remember that anger destroys not only your relationship with yourself, but your relationship with the world. Strive to be like Jesus, strive to love the world, strive to be excited to live an abundant life in love with life, no matter what comes your way. Jesus knew he was going to be crucified in the most excruciating pain, yet he still never angered. "Forgive them father, for they know not what they do" This came from his LOVE for the world.

  • Once you start loving the world you can be sure that anger will not follow you, for love and anger cannot coexist.

Here's a great exercise for you!

Take 10 minutes off every day to mediate on this Scripture.  Dwell on each sentence of the Scripture for each day of the week. Replace the word "Love"  with your name. Meditate on this for three months and you're sure to see results! God's word is alive and will refresh you!

Psalm 1:3
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither, and who prospers in all he does.
